About IDA
The International Door Association (IDA) primary mission is to provide programs and services to door and access systems dealers, for the express purpose of enhancing their value and professionalism. Door and access systems dealers sell, install and service a vast array of products including:

• Residential Doors and Operators
• Commercial Doors and Operators
• Fire Doors
• Gates

Founded in 1995, the trade association
(501 c 6):

• Produces an annual trade show and exposition (the International Garage Door Exposition)
• Publishes the industry’s leading trade journal (International Door & Operator Industry)
• Facilitates the creation and production of educational, accreditation, and certification programs through its partnership with the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation
• Provides educational scholarships to IDA members via the IDA Scholarship Foundation.
• Enforces a Code of Business Conduct equally important to ethical door dealers and consumers.

What Accreditation and Certification mean to the consumer

Accreditation is available to companies who sell, service and install overhead doors and access systems. It is a voluntary program in which applicants must complete a comprehensive six-part study course covering all aspects of the residential and commercial door and access systems industry.

In addition to passing six written examinations, applicants must provide documentation to IDEA regarding insurance coverage, proper tax registration or licensing, business tenure and reputation. Companies that earn IDEA Dealer Accreditation are able to hold themselves out to the general public as having met a voluntary standard of quality that is recognized by the industry as a symbol of excellence.

Installers and service technicians also have professional recognition opportunities through IDEA certification programs. Certification is available to residential garage door technicians, rolling steel fire door technicians and – as of January 1, 2006 – commercial sectional door technicians. Certification standards are new to the industry, but are growing in visibility and stature, and are expected to become the standard for educated consumers in the near future.

The association is headquartered in West Milton, Ohio USA. It operates 11 Regions with a national director representing each one. Long & Associates, Inc., provides professional management services via a team of association specialists.

With ancestry dating back to 1934, the Institute has more than 5,000 members in the United States, Canada and abroad. Membership consists of individuals and consultants involved in the architectural openings industry, representing distributors, manufacturers and sales representatives/agency firms, as well as architects, specifiers and contractors who rely on such professionals.

Since their incorporation in 1988, the California Operator & Door Association (CODA) has established and kept its position as the premier resource for the door, operator and gate industries in the western United States.

Founded and maintained by industry dealers, installers and manufacturers, CODA constantly works to raise consumer confidence with door products and services. By setting professional guidelines for membership and requiring proper state licensing, homeowners, contractors, retail business owners -- anyone using door products can look to CODA as source of high industry standards.
